Moon Signs of Astrology: What Exactly Is a Moon Sign?

So we all know we have a sun sign, aka your main sign: the zodiac sign the sun was traveling through during the day and time of your birth. 

But did you know that every person also has a moon sign? Yes, as in what zodiac sign the moon was orbiting through during the exact time of your birth. 

More times than not, your moon sign will be different than what your sun sign is. Example: my sun sign is Leo, but my moon sign is Aries. 

But what does a moon sign even mean? Let me break it down nice and easy for you all! 

What Does A Moon Sign Signify?

We've all heard the phrase "the dark side of the moon", and in some ways, the dark side is where your moon sign comes into play. 

Except, I wouldn't necessarily always call your moon sign "dark". Your moon sign technically represents your internal side. Your feelings, your matters of the heart. The side of you that you probably keep more private and don't easily show on the surface as much as your sun sign. 

In short, while your sun sign controls your identity, your moon sign controls your instincts. 

How Do I Figure Out My Moon Sign? 

Simple. The internet will come in handy here. Google "moon sign calculator" or "what is my moon sign". My usual go-to is AstroStyle's made by the AstroTwins. 

Keep in mind, you will need to know the exact location of your birth (as in the location of the hospital you were born in), as well as the exact time, or your results will not be as accurate. 

Once you figure out your moon sign, you're probably thinking, "Ok, what now?" 

Again, simple. Take the personality traits of an Aries sun, but apply them now towards your feelings and internal instincts. 

Example: I am a Leo sun, which means as a whole I am confident, warm, and loyal. But with my Aries moon added in now, that means my feelings can sometimes be direct, impulsive, and at times, a little hot-headed. (whoops!)
